Sumatra Utara

Sumatra Utara capital city is Medan with a population of 2.5 million people. Medan is the 4th largest city in Indonesia behind Jakarta, Surabaya, and Bandung but it is the largest city outside of Java Island.

63% of people in Sumatra Utara is Muslim, 34% are christian, 2.4% are Buddhism, and 0.22% other. The ethnic group of Sumatra Utara are 45% Batak, 30% Javanese, 8.5% Chinese, 5.7% Malay, 4.1% Nias, and 5.4% others.

Sumatra Utara is between the Indian ocean on the west and the straight of Malacca on the east. Sumatra Utara has lake Toba which is the largest volcanic lake which is a volcano surrounded by a lake inside the inside Sumatra.

 

Sumatra Barat

Sumatra Barat capital city is Padang with a population of 1 million people. The total Sumatra Barat population is 5.6 million people. Sumatra Barat only faces the Indian Ocean to the west.

Sumatra Barat shares the highest Volcano in all of Indonesia with Jambi, and it is Mount Kerinci. Mount Kerinci reach the elevation of 3805 meters and the last eruption was in October 2022.

The ethnic groups of Sumatra Barat is 90% Minangkabau, 4% Javanese, 3% Batak, and 2% others. The religion groups of Sumatra Barat is 97.4% Islam, 2.2% Christian, 0.35% Hindu, and 0.06% Buddhism.



Sumatra Barat has many foods and one of them is the Padang cuisine of the Minangkabau people and one of them is Minangkabau Rendang, Nasi Kapau, Asam Padeh, ayam pop, Gulai, lemang, Roti Canai, and more.


The most interesting attraction for tourists in Sumatra Barat are the natural environment, and the culture and history of Minankabau and Mentawai People. Some of the popular tourism places are Jam Gadang, Lake Maninjau, Pagaruyung Royal Palace, and more.

 

Riau



Riau has a population of 6.5 million people, and the capital city and largest city is Pekanbaru city with 1.1 million people while Dumai city is a major city with 330 thousand people. Riau borders the straits of Malacca and is very close to Singapore and Malaysia on the other side.


Riau consist of 1.8 million Malay (33%),  1.6 million Javanese (29%), 690 thousand Batak (12.5%), 676 thousand Minangkabau (12.3%), 227 thousand Banjar (4.1%), and 9% other. 87% of Riau people is Muslim, 10.8% Christian, 9.7% protestant, 1% catholic, and 3% other.


The official language of Riau is Indonesian but there is also Riau Malay which originated from Malaysia called Old Malay and is spoken by 1.8% million people. Riau has many natural tourism areas like Jemur Island, Bukti tiga puluh national park, Aek Martua waterfall, North rupat beach Tanjung Medan, and more.


JAMBI

Muaro Jambi is a Buddhist temple complex in Jambi, and it was created by the Melaya kingdom, and it date back to 7th to 13th century. It is a national monument, and it is a popular place for tourist and locals to visit.


Jambi 95% Muslim and there are many Mosques which mean praying inside a Mosque in Jambi is very easy even in Villages.


Jambi have many traditional foods like Pempek, Nasi Gemuk, Bolu Kojo, and more, and they can be found around Indonesia because the food are delicious, and everyone want to try it.


 Bengkulu

Bengkulu has many natural resources like coal and gold and has big potential of Geothermal resource, however Bengkulu is less develop compared to other Sumatra province. Bengkulu also ginger, bamboo, and rubber. This mean Bengkulu can be a very rich Province in the future.


Bengkulu has island called Enggano Island and it has a small population but a rich culture with unique traditional dances and more. It is a popular place for explorer who want to see its culture.


Bengkulu has a traditional cuisine, and the food are Kue Lepek Biniti, Pendap, Kue Perut Punai, and much more. These Bengkulu foods are not as widespread compared to other traditional food.

 

 

Bali

Bali is the most popular tourist destination in all of Indonesia and for a good reason. It has beautiful beaches like Seminyak beach, Nusa dua beach, Echo beach, Jimbaran Bay, and more. The beaches are one of the main attractions of Bali but it also good for the local to do fishing.

 

86.9% of Balinese are Hinduism which is the only place where Hindu is more popular than Islam or Christianity in Indonesia. This mean Bali has a very unique culture because of their beliefs which mean there are many temples to visit to pray in for Hindu people visiting Bali.

 

Bali has many species of animals like the Bali Myna (bird), East Javan Langur (monkey), Great Egret (Bird), Java sparrow (Bird), and more. They also have many oceans creature like the hammer head shark, Bump head parrot fish, Giant sunfish, Sea turtle, and more.

 

 

West Papua

West Papua or Western new Guinea is a unique part of Indonesia because most of the local people are dark skin but also 63% of them believe in Christianity. Papua also have a very unique culture with many tribes with traditional food, dances, clothes, and tradition they do.
