What is Ecology?

Ecology is defined as the study of interrelationship of different organism with each other and with their environment. It is concerned with the general principles that apply to both animals and plants.

Classification of Ecology

Based on study area:

1. Autecology: It deals with the study of an individual species of organisms and it's population. The ecologists study the behaviour and adaptions of particular species to the environmental condition at every stage of that individual’s life cycle. It is also called the species Ecology.

2. Synecology: It deals with the study of communities, their composition, their behaviour and relation with the environment. It is also called as Ecology of communities. It is further divided into 3 types:

1) Population Ecology

2) Community Ecology

3) Ecosystem Ecology

There are different types of Environment that Ecology lives  in:

1) Aquatic Ecology / Water Ecology

Marine Waters:

They can be in the Ocean, Deep Sea, Estuary.

Freshwater:

Freshwater running water areas can be river, streams, springs

Freshwater standing water areas can be a pond or a lake.

There are also land areas that ecology can be at, for example:

1. Grassland Ecology

2. Forest Ecology

3. Desert Ecology

3. Based on Advancement in the field of ecology

a. Productive ecology

b. Population ecology

c. Community ecology

d. Ecosystem ecology

e. Microbial ecology

f. Radiation ecology

g. Pollution ecology

h. Space ecology

Ecosystem

An Ecosystem can consists of the biological community that may occurs in some locale, and the physical and chemical factors that make up its none living or abiotic environment. There are many different examples of ecosystems, for example like a pond, a forest, an estuary, and grassland.

Types of Ecosystem

Theres 2 types of Ecosystem. The one that we did which is called the Natural Ecosystem. Examples can be land and water. Forland its forest grassland and desert and more. For water its spring stream river lake and pond. but there an Artificial one.

Artifical ( Man Engineered Ecosystem / Not made by nature ):

These are maintained artifically by man where by addition of energy and planned manipulation, natural balance is disturbed regularly e.g., crop land ecosystem.

EKOLOGI = HABITAT= TEMPAT HIDUP MAKHLUK HIDUP DENGAN TERJADINYA INTERAKSI ANTARA HEWAN DAN TUMBUHAN

ecology = a house of living thing with many interaction between plants and animals

species / species = it's represent an organism (Satu makhluk)

population/ populasi = its' group of same species(kumpulan dari beberapa spesies yang sama )

community ( komunitas ): the group of population (kumpulan dari beberapa populasi)

ecosystem = the group of community in one place that have interactions between each other (kumpulan beberapa komunitas yang memiliki interaksi satu sama lain)

types of area ecology:

1. aquatic ecology = ecology water

2. terrestrial ecology = ecology darat

Grassland ecology

Homework:

1. what is your understanding about ocean ecosystem, and give an example ?

2. what is your understanding between the difference of natural ecosystem and artificial ecosystem?

Nur Afifah – Thursday ( Science ) 6/4/2023

Today we will be learning about the Food Web and Food Chain:

What is the Food Chain and Food Web?

A food chain is a chain of animals getting eaten from the first to the last. Like Worm to eagle etc…

Food Web is a chain of an ecosystem, like Worm can get eaten by a bird or a snake or cockroaches, etc..

The difference between the Food Web and Food chain:

A food chain is a chain of animals eating from the first to the last.

Example: Wheat – Grasshopper – Spider – Bird – Eagle

But then the Food Web is a whole ecosystem of food chain

Example:

Assignment:

Make your own Food Chain / Food Web:

The Grass gets eaten by the rabbit, mouse, and grasshopper. Then after that the rabbit and mouse can get eaten by the fox, but the mouse can also get eaten by the hawk. The grasshopper will get eaten by the frog, then the frog will get eaten by the snake, then finally the snake gets eaten by the hawk.

Homework:

What are the 3 types of Symbiotic?

The 3 types of Symbiotic are, Mutualism, Commensalism, and Parasitism

Nur Afifah – Thursday ( Science ) 13/4/2023

Today we will be learning about Symbiotic:

Symbiotic Relationships

Symbiosis means the relationship between two different individuals of species living together or in a relationship together.

The 2 words of Symbiotic have a meaning:

Sym meaning together

Bio meaning life

There are 3 types of Symbiotic

Mutualism ( + / + )                          +  = They gain something in the relationship

Commensalism ( + / 0 )                 0  = They gain nothing but lose nothing in the relationship

Parasitism ( + / - )                            -  = They lose something / get harmed in the relationship

Mutualism they both gain something

Commensalism One gain and one stays the same

Parasitism One gain and the other lose  something / get harmed

Mutualism

Where both benefit something

Example: The acacia galls are homes to the stinging ants and the ants defend acacia from other insects that would harm the tree leaves.

Another example: The moray eel gets a clean mouth, and the cleaner fish gets a meal.

Commensalism

Commensalism is a relationship where one benefits and the other is unaffected.

Example: An owl can live inside a tree for shelter while the tree still remains unaffected.

Another Example: Cattle stir up insects as they eat grass and the egrets ( A bird ) hang around and eat insects.

Parasitism

Parasitism is a relationship where one of the species will gain while the other will lose / get harmed.

Example: Ticks and fleas that live in body animal fur will drink the animal’s blood are called parasites.

Another Example: Insects such as mosquitoes feeding on a host are parasites too. It is called DBD in Indonesia which means "Demam berdarah". Or in English Dengue Fever.

Short quick meaning of the words

kompetisi = competition = fight each other of 2 individuals

predasi = eating of other individual. predators

herbivori = interaction between a herbivore with produsen/ producers which refer to plant

Mutualism is a relationship that benefit both parties

Commensalism is a relationship that benefit one party but the other party no profit or loss

Parasitism is a relationship when one organisms called parasites acquire advantage, while other organisms called the host is harmed

Afifah teach me about

Flora and Fauna

Flora is a plant Fauna is an animal. She showed Indonesian Example of Flora and Fauna. For Flora she showed me Amorphophallus titanium And for the Fauna which is animal she showed me the Komodo dragon

Flora

Some of the plants that live in a place grow naturally and some are cultivated by humans.

Flora in various places in the world must be different, this is influenced by several factors, among others, as follows:

Iklam / Climate

Jenis tanah = Land structure

Relief atau tinggi rendah permukaan bumi = high and low of the land

Biotik ( penggaruh makhluk hidup ) = human living factor

Indonesia Bagian Barat

The western part of Indonesia is included in the Af climate region (wet tropics). There is a tropical rain forest with the following characteristics:

Heavy Leaf

The average tree height is 60m

There are many climbing trees

Many grow epiphytic trees (ferns and orchids)

Indonesia Bagian Tengah

Including Am climate region (tropical moderate). There is a seasonal forest with the following characteristics:

Trees are lower than tropical rainforests

In the dry season the leaves fall

In the rainy season it starts to sprout

Indonesia Bagian Timur

Regions that include Aw climate (dry tropical). There is a savanna forest with the following characteristics:

Grasslands, shrubs and low trees

Macam-Macam Faunia Di Indonesia

These are the animals of Faunia which are in Indonesia. Example: Tiger, Elephant,  Rhino, Bull, Kangaroo, Komodo, Anoa, etc...

Efforts To Preserve Flora And Fauna In INDONESIA

Efforts to preserve flora in Indonesia

1. Carry out reforestation of deforested forests

2. Avoid illegal cutting of trees in the forest

3. Create a nature reserve to protect some rare plant species

4. Conduct greening

Efforts to Preserve Fauna in Indonesia

1. Create a wildlife sanctuary

2. Issue laws to protect endangered animals

3. Conduct breeding of rare star types

4. Avoid hunting wild animals

Exercise

1. What is the Influence of human in the ecosystem?

Human creates factories and throws away trash and it ruins it ecosystem.

While some other humans try to restore the ecosystem by replanting and cleaning up trash and recycling it.

2. In Indonesia, you can find savanna areas, which are located in

a. Papua

3. Indonesia's forests as one of the largest forests in the world are used as the lungs of the world, namely tropical rain forests which have characteristics...

a. Many grow around the coast

b. Grass grows that covers the surface of the earth

c. A tall, spiky tree like a pine

d. Has a season if dry and rainy

e. The forest is dense and broadleaf and the forest floor is dark ( correct )

4. The main factor that influences the distribution of tropical rain forests in the equator is...

a. Man

b. Biological

6. How much do you know about pollution?

There is air pollution, water pollution, light pollution, soil pollution, etc...

Nur Afifah - Thursday ( Science ) 11/5/2023

Today Nur Afifah just teach me about the solar system and teached me about Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune.

Nur Afifah - Thursday ( Science ) 18/5/2023

First was Afifah introduced the earth rotation and revolution then after that she showed me a video to watch which then she will give me questions after I watch the video.

Video: Earth's Rotation & Revolution: Crash Course Kids 8.1 - YouTube

(Context of the video: The video explains where the sun goes after sunset. It soon explains that there is an axis that the earth is spinning on from the North pole to the South pole and as it rotates the side its facing the sun is day while the other side is night. Usually, it takes 24 hours to do a full rotation.

Not just is the Earth spinning but also it is spinning around the sun, and it takes 365 days to do the entire Revolution.

The earth is also not spinning straight, it is actually curved a little bit and because of this. The certain parts on earth where the curve is will have a different effect than the other side and that’s where seasons come in play. etc...

So now you know that the sun is spinning around us but rather that we are spinning around the sun.)

Questions

1. What is the effect of rotation

The time of the day

2. What is the effect of revolution

The seasons which happen every few months on earth

3. Where does the area has 4 seasons and 2 seasons?

In Europe they have 4 seasons / Summer, winter, spring, and autumn

While in areas like Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand we only have 2 seasons / Summer, and raining.

( From September to March it is usually rainy seasons and during March to September it can be dry season ).

4. Tell me what is the country with barely any night?

There is also a country where there is no night which is the country called "Iceland" which has 23 hours or 24 hours a day and barely any night.

5. How much days are in a Earth Revolution?

There are 365 days / 1 year in a Earth Revolution / the earth going around the sun until it is in the same spot as it was left off at.

Afifah soon tell me about the moon and that the moon rotates around the earth and its gravity is way different than the earth. For context the earth gravity is around 10 metres per second while the moon gravity is around 1.66 metres per second. That’s only about 16% of the earth’s gravity. So, if you were on the moon you could lift 6 times than what you could lift in earth.

Now Nur Afifah shows me the types of eclipse in our solar system. There are 4 types of Solar Eclipse in earth.

The first one is the Total Solar Eclipse. The range of the Total Solar Eclipse is very small, and it can only be seen in a specific area. It is also very dark if you are in that area of when a Total Solar Eclipse happens.

The second is called the Partial Solar Eclipse. It should be pretty straight forward but it's when the moon only blocks out a certain part of the sun, but the sun is still visible. Although it won’t be as dark it still will be a noticeable difference.

The third one is called the Annular Solar Eclipse and it’s really close to an Total Solar eclipse but it’s when the Moon blocks out the sun but the outer layer of the sun is still bigger than the moon so it will look like the moon has a bright edge.

The last one is really rare, and it’s called a Total-Annular Solar eclipse. Where in a certain part of the earth they will experience the Annular Solar Eclipse but then in another area they will experience the Total Solar Eclipse.

(There is Lunar eclipse but it’s too hard to explain so just watch the video)

Link: Lunar and Solar Eclipse Explained: A Beginner’s Guide to Eclipses - YouTube

Short Example

Solar Eclipse = Sun - Moon - Earth

The effect is the sun shine is blocked or covered by moon, even though it is day, it will dark at the moment.

Lunar = Sun - Earth - Moon

The effect = moon get no light from the sun, and it makes moon has different color due to the lunar eclipse.
