War thunder fighter bomber list (Azka)

Top 5 best Propeller fighter aircraft to ground strike in war thunder.

A good fighter bomber is the ability to deal with ground unit while able to fight for itself against other aircraft.

5. The Typhoon MkIb/L is a British fighter bomber sitting at a battle rating of 4.3 in realistic battle or 4.7 battle rating in arcade battle.

https://wiki.warthunder.com/Typhoon_Mk_Ib/L

As a fighter it can fight for itself having 4 20mm hispano Mk.II cannons and are wing mounted. It has 140 rounds per gun which in total gives you 560 rounds which is sufficient as the hispanos are very deadly and have decent velocity.

If you take the ground target belt you can have up to 38mm at max but typically you will be shooting around 1000-500 meters at the enemy which make the penetration around 20-28mm of penetration which is better than 50 calibres on American planes.  (Chart for the penetration for each belt)

As for the flight characteristic it is decent. When using it as a dog fighter it can turn at 19.5 second but it cannot fight in a sustain dog fight against a lot of other fighters. It is not recommended to dog fight planes like a spitfire, zero, ki-61, yak 3 or 9, la5 or 7 and Re.2005 serie 0 but it can turn against p51, bf109, c. 205, and g55 for a few turns but will lose the fight if you don’t get your guns quick enough as the typhoon loses energy much quicker. Against p47 and fw190 are east enough as they have much worse turn and against any twin engine aircraft it should be easy game to dogfight them. It is decently fast as it can go to 671 kph but the aircraft wont reach that unless at a dive and instead it can go around 400-500kph with decent acceleration which is enough to run away from Japanese aircraft and spitfire but not enough to run away from American and German plane.  (Characteristic of the typhoon)

It preforms best at boom and zooming as it has strong wings and will only break at 845 kph and got rate of climb of 19.5 m/s but it compresses pass 530 kph and at ground realistic battle it is not very useful as you always stay at low altitude.

The biggest weakness to the typhoon is the roll rate as it is very slow which make defensive flying or scissors difficult to do because you can’t dodge the enemy plane fast enough

As for its secondary payloads it can carry 2 x 250 lb bombs which are weak, 2 x 500 lb bombs which is decent, but the best is the 2 x 100 lb bombs which is around 500kg weight, and it can easily destroy the heaviest of tanks at its battle rating or even higher. It has access to 8 RP-3 rocket but it is very unreliable as it is not the easiest to aim and heavy tanks like the kv-1 are immune to your rockets.

All round the typhoon is a good pick for the British as a fighter bomber as it is better at destroying ground unit compared to a spitfire while being decently agile. It is worth to grind even for air realistic battle as it is good at boom and zooming and good at air arcade battle as it has very good guns.

The weakness for the typhoon is it is not the most agile and it only have 2 bombs, but they are drop at the same time.

I give it a 7/10 at dealing with enemy aircraft as you can dog fight most German and American planes but can run away against more agile planes like the zero or ki-61 but its energy retention in long dog fight is bad.

8/10 at dealing with enemy ground as the 2 1000 lb bombs is enough to destroy all enemy vehicle and the 4 20mm hispano has decent enough penetration to deal with light tanks and medium tank on its roof.

It is worth picking up for your line up for just to play as it can be a fun plane to fly.

4. P-63 C-5 is an American fighter sitting at the battle rating of 4.0 in realistic battle and arcade battle.

https://wiki.warthunder.com/P-63C-5

This fighter is the pinnacle of the P-63 as it has the best performance compared to the other P-63 in the American tech tree. This plane is also in another tech tree as in the French aviation tech tree because the French used this plane. So, you can use this plane in your American and French 4.0 line up.

You may wonder why should you use this plane instead of a P-47 or a P-51?  Well, the answer is in its performance.

This plane was made to fight in low to medium altitude which means it is perfect for ground realistic battle as you won’t be at a disadvantage in your performance for example the P-47 and P-51 was made for high altitude and when using it at low altitude its performance is not as desirable. It does suffer at high altitude which will not be a problem unless you are playing air realistic battle where being in high altitude is very important but in ground battle you are going to be at your best.

Its top speed is 663 kph is will not be achieved in battle unless in a dive but it is decently fast and can out speed Zero, ki-61, and spitfires, Re.2005, and early yak 9 but you will not run away against yak 3, P-51, La-5/7, P-47 (only when you are already going past 500 kph), bf 109 and fw190.

As for manoeuvrability it can turn in 23 second but don’t get tricked because it can turn pretty good around 350-450 kph and you can dog fight bf-109, fw-190, and in the right situation even it can dog fight yaks or La-5.

As for rate of climb it is good as it climb rate is 21.7 second which is as good as Bf-109s, and the role rate is decent but not as good as a fw190.

All round it is a plane that can decently do everything except one thing. Which is fight in low speed, like all American planes their low-speed handling is bad and very sluggish at 250 kph or lower. So always try to keep your speed up when doing dog fights.

It can also do some boom and Zoom because of its strong wings and its compression is not too bad so its wont crash to the ground like a IL-2 when in a dive.

Now for the armaments, this plane has 4 50 Cals and it can do some work against light aircraft like the Zero or Wood planes like the Yak-3 but you only have 4 50 Cals instead of 6 or 8 like the P-40, P-51, and the P-47.

One weakness the 50 Cals has compared to the other 50 Cals is that it is using the older belt which mean you don’t get the deadly tracer belt which can burn any aircrafts.

But you have 1 very deadly 37mm cannon, it can easily deal with any plane if you hit the enemy planes and here’s the problem. It is very difficult to aim it because it has a lot of dispersion past 700 meter and its velocity is ok, but the 50 Cals have a much faster velocity which means you either aim with the 50 Cals or the 37mm cannon. The cannon is also can jam after shooting when shooting more than 7 shots which is a problem when you only have a few second to take down an enemy plane. Its fire rate is 165 shots a min which is not slow, but it can be a problem when the enemy plane is doing defensive flying.

Another weakness is the weak penetration for the 37mm as it can only penetrate 37mm which is only 7 mm more penetration compared to the 50 cal and when compared to the Russian 37mm on the yak 9T it put the American 37mm to shame. 37mm should only use the 37mm on open tops or enemy aircraft as it is not very good at hitting roofs of medium tanks.

The ammunition of the 50 Cals and 37mm is sufficient but when you are spraying you soon ran out of ammo. But for the most part it won’t be a huge problem.

Finally, the bombs.

You get only 1 payload to pick, and it is the 3 x 500 lb bombs which equivalate to around 250 kg bombs.

It is better compared to German 250kg bombs or Russian 250kg bombs by 30kg more TNT equivalent. All round it is a decent bomb, but you will have to aim with them but as long you can drop them beside the enemy tank you can easily get 2 kills.

All round the P-63 is a good pick for your 4.0 line up because of its good low altitude performance and decent bomb load you can easily get 2-3 ground kills and some air kills. It is also good at air battle because of its performance but its high-altitude performance isn’t the best. It is a good alternative compared to the P-47 as you may get a worse payload you get a much better preforming plane and can fight for itself.

3. Fw 190-D9 is German Fighter in rank 4 battle rating 5.0 in arcade and realistic battle.

https://wiki.warthunder.com/Fw_190_D-9

This plane is the Dora Variant of the Fw 190 and sit after the Fw 190 Anton 8 but this plane is much different compared to it.  It uses the Junker Jumo 213A engine and it is a inline engine which mean it use water as the cooling system instead of Radial engine which use air like the Fw 190 A-8.

This new engine gives excellent performance for the aircraft and bringing it to 710 kph in realistic or 745 kph in arcade but you won’t be reaching those speed unless in a dive and more realistically reach around over 600kph at medium altitude which is fast for its battle rating.

Another advantage of all the Fw 190 including this one is that it has excellent roll rate which can be beneficial when doing defensive flying where you can roll out of the enemy guns.

As for its finally advantage is its rate of climb, it may not seem that great at first look, but you can typically at the same altitude with stuff like P-51 D30 or I-225 but if you are able to play your cards right you can be higher than any enemy aircrafts.

But it’s not as good as Bf-109 rate of climb.

It also has a major weakness in the Fw 190 D-9, and it is its turn rate which it lacks and can get out manoeuvred by aircraft like Bf-109 if you play arcade, Any Japanese aircrafts, P-51 D series, and most Russian Fighters.

If you want to get the best turn rate it is recommended to turn around 450 kph and make sure to use, take off flaps as they break at 700kph but most of the time it won’t be enough to win a dog fight, so it is recommended to fight in energy fights as the fw 190 does better in vertical turning but still not great.

Another weakness is the low-speed manoeuvrability which it becomes very sluggish bellow 350kph and cannot out stall most aircrafts and you become easy food, so it is recommended to keep your speed up when engaging in a fight.

As for the aircraft airframe performance it is pretty good as its wing only break at 912 kph which you will rarely get to those speeds, and it doesn’t lock up that bad at high speed, but its turn rate make it feel like it is locking up at those high speed.

All round it is best to use it as a boom and zoom because of its good energy retention and strong wings but at the cost of not being able to dogfight most enemies which can be a problem when you don’t have any other options. Additional thing is that its engine is not the same as on its other brothers like the Fw 190 D-12 and D-13 which has a better engine in high altitude above 5km which the Fw 190 D-9 suffer because it loses performance rather quickly at those high altitude and you need to be as high of altitude when fight enemy fighters so you can an easier time boom and zooming.

As for armament it is very good if you can aim because you get 2 x 20 mm MG 151 cannon which are known to be very deadly even against bombers and you get 250 rounds for each gun and 700 shot/minute but at the cost that the velocity is not the best.

It also has 2 x 13 MG 131 Machine gun which are not the best because they aren’t like 50 calibres like on the other countries because its velocity is poor compared to other machine gun, but it has a bit of a punch especially compared to the 7.92 Machine gun that it uses on the older fw 190 models. It has 400 rounds per gun and 900 shot/min which is pretty good. (Another thing is that both the 20 mm MG 151 cannon and 13 mm MG 131 machine gun and similar velocity making aiming a bit easier.

(Stats for the penetration for the 20 mm MG 151 cannon)

One weakness of the guns on that the Fw 190 D-9 use is that the guns don’t have the best penetration and the best they can do is kill open top tanks or tanks with 15 mm or less roof armour which can only be found in light tanks or some tank destroyers. Luckly, it has some weapons you can use to destroy heavier targets in the form of bombs from 50 kg to 500kg bombs but the best payload is the 1 x 500kg bomb on the belly and the 4 x 50kg bombs on the wings but 2 of the 50kg bomb drop per drop which mean in total you can drop 3 times and you can get in best case scenario 3 kills but most of the time you will drop all of the 50 kg bomb because they are very small radius of destruction and most of the time you wont get the kill if you just drop 2 50 kg bombs but the 500 kg bomb can be drop a bit far from the enemy tank and still destroy them because it has a pretty big radius but it is recommended to put a timer of 1.5 to 2 second so you don’t kill yourself.

Fw 190 D-9 does not carry any rocket which can be a bummer but for the most part you are not missing a lot because German rocket aren’t the best except the Wfr.Gr.21 Rocket which are deadly but hard to aim. All round the payload that the Fw 190 D-9 can carry is pretty good and you can pick weaker payload if you don’t have enough spawn point to pick the heaviest payload.

When using the Fw 190 D-9 in Ground Realistic battle it is recommended to not get in a very steep dive because the aircraft does not do well when pulling up out of a dive because of its mediocre vertical manoeuvre and it is better of to be in a shallow dive so you can pull out easier. when dealing with enemy aircraft it is recommended that to take a head on if you face a enemy fighter which is more agile and your guns are pretty deal and only need a few round to destroy an enemy aircraft. Heavy fighters, strike aircrafts, and bomber should be easier to deal with as you can out manoeuvre them but some of them have very deadly guns so don’t take a head on unless you know that they don’t have deadly guns.

All round this aircraft is pretty good at ground striking because of its wide range of payload it can pick but its flight performance can be a bit frustrating because it doesn’t have the best turning ability and you will be crashing to the ground quite often if you don’t pull out quick enough. It also not the best dogfighter against a lot of enemy planes but you do have great armament which can easily destroy any kind of plane from biplane to large bombers.

It should be in your 5.3 to 6.7 line up because not just you have excellent tanks like tigers and panthers you also don’t have another fighter bomber option that can bring as good of a destruction.

2.  ITP (M-1) is a Soviet premium plane battle rating 4.0 in realistic battle and 4.3 in arcade battle which was obtainable in the second battle pass season two “steel centurion” for free.

https://wiki.warthunder.com/ITP_(M-1)

It is also obtainable in the Gaijin marketplace for 12-13 Gaijin Coins of right now and it may rise.

Note: it’s a premium so it will already be spaded.

ITP stands for heavy cannon fighter, and it sure does fly like a heavy one. Its top speed is 676 kph but you won’t be reaching those speed and more likely reach 450-500 kph which is good for its battle rating, but it does take a while to reach those speed. You will out speed Japanese aircrafts but won’t outrun American and German aircraft which are common opponents.

As for its rate of climb it is 15.1 meter a second which is sufficient, but you won’t be out climbing bf-109 or Japanese aircraft and you will lag behind Yaks and La teammates, but you should be able to be a similar altitude as long you side climb for a bit.

The main weakness is that its turn rate is only 21 second which is not enough to dog fight a lot of opponents and that may shock you because most of the other Soviet Aircraft are agile. But you can still dog fight if you have a speed advantage or a teammate to help you and it will make your life much easier.

Its roll rate is pretty good and can help you get out of the enemy guns when in a defensive fight but its not as good as a fw-190.

As for its other details it has combat flaps which can give you extra turning capability but most of the time it won’t be enough, and the combat flaps will rip off very easy and can’t be used over 365 kph.

It has strong wings and can go to 800 kph before breaking which is unseen with yaks or La aircrafts where they will break over 700 kph. It also does lock up over 500 kph but it is controllable when diving in high speed.

It is best to use the plane in boom and zoom because it is not the best dog fighter, and it is pretty decent in high speed, but it can be used in dog fight especially against like fw-190 or when you can energy trap the enemy so it is a pretty versatile aircrafts but isn’t good at anything, so it is alright preforming plane.

Other minor stuff but useful facts is that the plane is small making enemy hitting you more difficult, but it also has only 1 armour plate and it is behind its plane which is only 13mm which is only enough to stop 7.62 machine gun but the lack of bullet proof glass or any protection to the engine make it taking damage much more severe.

As the name says it has some heavy armament to be use when shooting at enemy in the form of 2x 20 mm shvaks cannon and 1x 37 mm Sh-37 cannon.

The 20mm has 200 ammos for each gun which is good amount and 50 round for the 37mm which may seem to be not a lot but because its fire rate is low it is more than enough especially that it can one shot a lot of aircrafts.

The 20mm Shvaks are the weakest 20mm in game because it has the lowest amount of TNT in its air belt, but it is the damage is still good and you do have 2 of them and a good amount of ammo. Its ground target belt can penetrate up to 28mm which is worse than a 50 calibre, but it is enough to destroy light tanks like hellcats or M24. All round it is a decent gun but not the best.

As for its 37mm cannon it is very deadly when using the air belt as it can one shot aircrafts from single engine aircrafts and only taking a few shots for twin engine aircrafts or bombers, but they are compensated for being much easier to hit them.

The AP belt can penetrate up to 71 mm which is amazing and can penetrate all roof armour in its battle rating and even some light and medium tanks side armour. With such a deadly gun it does have some weakness in the form of that it has a slow fire rate against plane, but it is enough for attacking ground units. Another weakness that can ruin your gameplay is that the gun will jam after just shooting over 5 rounds if you constantly which can be a major problem when you need to destroy your target quickly. Another weakness is that it only has 50 rounds but is enough as long you have trigger discipline, and another weakness is that its velocity is not the best but isn’t too hard to aim.

It is best to use the guns on the plane on burst of shots so you don’t waste ammunition and prevent your guns jamming and most of the time you will only need one burst as the guns are very deadly when they hit.

The ITP has a small payload but can be deadly if used right.

It has access to bombs are rockets but I recommend using the 2x 100 kg bomb as in theory you can get 2 kills because the bombs drop 1 by 1 but it is difficult to destroy target because the 100kg bomb only have 36kg of explosive which mean you must place it right next on the enemy tank, but they are easier to destroy enemy than the rockets.

Note: the 50kg are even worse.

It has access to 2 type of rockets in the form of RS-82 rockets and RBS-82 rockets and these rockets are pretty small but the different between these two is that the RBS-82 has a delayed fuse which allow them to penetrate but it has only 8 of them and they are place on the 4 of the rockets on each wings making it hard to aim with it and the rockets have low velocity and don’t do a lot of damage if you just hit right next on the tank. So, you will have to hit them directly which is already hard enough. If you can aim with them, you can get a few kills, but you will have to hit the same target multiple times if because it has decent but not amazing post penetration and only 1 shot if the enemy already took some damage and only have 3 or less crew or you hit the ammunition.

All round the plane has decent performance and amazing guns with small but useful payload if you can aim with them. When using in ground battle it can destroy enemy with its guns because there are a lot of enemy targets with lightly armour and because you are in the soviet team you won’t have to deal with heavy tanks like the KV-1 and the payload is just the cherry on top.

1.    The best Fighter bomber is the F4U-7 is a French fighter at the battle rating of 6.0 in all game mode and it is a beast in all of it.

https://wiki.warthunder.com/F4U-7

Even though this is an American plane, it only exists in the French tech tree because France was given this aircraft after the war.

As for the characteristic of the f4U-7 it uses the Pratt & Whitney R-2800-18w engine which is radial engine which mean it get cooled by air.

Which gives the engine up to 2100 horsepower or 2450 when taking off.

With such a powerful engine it can get the plane up to 711 kph but typically you can get over 600 kph which make it one of the fastest naval plane but when comparing it to other American planes like P-51H-5-NA or German aircrafts like Do-335 or Ta-152 h-1 (only at high altitude), its speed advantage cannot be used but you will be able to run away most Japanese, Italian, and British planes with a few exceptions.

One major weakness that all corsair have is that it loses engine power quickly at higher altitude because it uses a radial engine. So, you may not be able to run away from some aircrafts before when comparing at low altitude like Bf-109 K4.

As for its turn capability it can turn in 20 seconds which may seem average but in reality, this Corsair turns like a dime. It can dog fight planes like Bf 109 K-4, G-56, and P-51s which is great, but you won’t be outrunning aircrafts like Zeros, Ki-84, and Yak-3s.

Being able to turn quickly is great but it bleeds speed like no other planes. If you turn to tightly, you will lose 100s of kph which can mess you up when doing an energy fight so be careful when turning so tightly so you can keep as much speed as you can. Another weakness is that you will pass out very easily when turning tightly for long period of time even when you have a full aced crew.

As for its rate of climb it is decent for its battle rating and you will be with similar altitude with most planes like G-56, Yaks, La, and most Japanese planes but planes like ta-152 h-1, Bf-109, p-51, and some Japanese aircrafts will be higher than you at the beginning of the match. The reason is that the engine preforms poorly above 4.5 km and gets worse the higher you go which mean you will be climbing at a lower rate than in low altitude.

Typically, you do not need to side climb I not necessary because you want to be in a fight below 6 km so you can get the best out of your aircrafts performance while preventing planes like Ta-152 h-1 to get a larger advantage because it was made for high altitude.

Its roll rate is pretty good and will out roll most plane beside fw-190 so use it when defensive flying to your best while using your turn rate to get behind the enemy plane.

As for its structural detail it has all the necessary flaps and strong wings to do dog fight or boom and zoom. The combat flaps are weak and will break above 388 kph which can catch you by surprise when doing dog fight above 400 kph.

Using the flaps are necessary especially the landing flaps when you are stalling your self out and need to flip over as quick as possible. Even though this plane lacks an air brake it has extremely strong gear which only break until past 670 kph which can be used as an air brake when you need to get behind an enemy or slow down yourself when diving on an enemy.

Its high-speed performance is okay, and it become very difficult to control past 800 kph when diving but most of the time you won’t see yourself going over 800 kph unless you are diving down 3km.

As for its armour, it is pretty good with having a bullet proof glass and lots of armour plate underneath the plane so it can take hits from 7.62 machine guns from tanks below.

(Thickness of the armour plates)

All round it has the armour, but the engine lacks any armour which make it easy to take damage when being shot from the front like diving on an enemy tank. Even though the Armour are somewhat thick it won’t be stopping rounds from 20 mm to 30 mm which are common armaments on planes used at battle rating 6.0 so the armour should not be relied on when doing a head on and it is recommend using your good roll rate and turn rate to get out of the enemy bullets.

Its armaments are 4 x 20 mm M3 Cannon which does a lot of damages even against bombers like ju-288 which are common in air realistic battle. It also has a good ammo capacity with 246 rounds per gun and 984 rounds in total. Its fire rate is good with 750 shots/min, and it doesn’t jam very easily but it is recommended to not hold the trigger for too long. It does have a lot of spread especially when stock, so it is recommended to get the upgrade guns as quickly as possible.

Its belt is good with having up to 36mm at 10 meters but typically will be shooting around 500-1000 meters which bring down the penetration to 23-15 mm which is not the best but better than 50 calibres and it can penetrate most light tanks and some medium tanks, but heavies are immune to the bullets because they typically have 25mm or armour.

Another thing is that its velocity is pretty good and can shoot up to 1 km away as long you have the gun upgrade. When dealing with planes it is easy because the 20 mm, He filler is pretty good but not as good as MG 151 20 mm with its Powerful Minengeschoss shells, but it is compensated with its better velocity. All round the 20 mm M3 cannon will get the job done because of its good characteristic and you have 4 of them but the main weakness is that it is placed on the wings which mean you will have to put a convergence to 600 meter or less which can hinder your aim when shooting above 1 km.

The payload that the F4U-7 is where it shines with many ordnances to pick from loads of small 100 kg bombs, HVAR rockets, 1000 lb bombs and 114 x SNEB type 23 rockets and more. With such a versatile payload this plane can fit anyone fight bomber play style and also helps when you don’t have the most SP points to use the most lethal payload you can always use the weaker but still usable payloads.

the best is the 3 x 100 lb AN-M65A1 bombs which are place on the belly of the plane and are drop 1 by 1 giving you an easy 3 kills because the 1000 lb bombs which is around 500 kg and have a TNT equivalent of 318 kg which gives it 97 mm of penetration and a 12-meter destruction radius which is more than enough even if you don’t have the best aim. It is recommended that you put a 2 second or longer delay so you don’t blow yourself up. (note: when using this payload the plane become very heavy so it is recommended to use your bombs as quickly as possible before enemy planes come where you will need as much manoeuvrability you can get.

(SNEB type 23 rockets)

But there is 1 better payload that you must try when using the plane and it is the SNEB type 23 rockets because these rockets have penetration up to 400mm and still 200mm at 60 degrees and it stay the same at all distance because these rockets use HEAT warhead which mean it is the same as Heat shells used on tanks (High Explosive Anti-tank shell).

Even though these rockets are small and only weighing 5kg and only having 340 kg of explosive its use of HEAT warhead makes it be able to penetrate any tanks and even some tanks doesn’t have those penetration on there main guns. There is one thing that all small rockets will have and it is a poor post penetration damage and especially the SMEB type 23 rockets because it does damage by doing a jet stream concentrated on the impact of the rockets meaning that you will have to place your shots if you want to do any damage but typically you will take out at least 1 crew but you will have to hit the enemy tank multiple time  unless you hit the ammo. You will get a guaranteed penetration as long you hit the enemy tank even to the heaviest tanks and only tanks with ERA composite armour you won’t be able to penetrate but you will only see those above 9.0 with some exception like the AVRE but you will be able to blow ERA off so you can still kill those tanks and will only take a few more rockets than usual.

It is recommended to shoot the enemy tank multiple to time with your rockets because these rockets because these rockets aren’t the easiest to aim because of its somewhat slow velocity and the rocket placement on the plane which is on the wings. (Additional fact is that the F4U-7 is the only propeller plane using this rocket and it is also have most rockets of any fight bombers)

Which are no problems because you get 114 rockets in total, and you have 6 rocket pods which mean that you have 19 rockets per pod which is more than enough and can last the whole battle even if you are spamming the rockets. Another thing is that the rocket pods take turn firing which mean you will be shooting the farthest rocket pod first. Even with these aiming issues it is compensated that you have so many rockets which make it easier to use than using large rockets. (Note: make sure you shoot the enemy tank with some distance to make it easier because shooting bellow 500 meter because very difficult because the rockets are place so fair and you won’t be able to compensate it quick enough)

All round the F4U-7 is an excellent preforming aircraft that only start to suffer at higher altitude because the engine was made for low to mid altitude. It is an all rounder and master of none and can Boom and Zoom, Energy fight, and Dog fight to the player liking. Its Guns are great and can make quick work with any planes. With loads of payload that can bring destruction to any tanks, there is a reason I picked this plane being the best Fighter Bomber in war thunder.

HONARABLE MENTION:

The P47 D-25 is a Great Fighter bomber because of its good payload but because of its poor performance it isn’t the best fighter and will get destroyed by most fighters.

https://wiki.warthunder.com/P-47D-25

Its only good advantage is that it is fast, but the acceleration is not amazing, and this plane was made for high altitude and not low altitude fighter bombing. This plane was made to Boom and Zoom but its poor rate of climb makes it difficult to do it unless you side climb. Even when energy fighting or dog fighting it may be able to have an advantage for the first few turns but the plane bleed so much speed it is not made to do it.

Its Armament is good and will get the job done against fighters and light tanks, but the guns are too weak to destroy heavy tanks and heavy bombers. (Good velocity, High fire rate, good ammo pool but poor at dealing with heavier tanks or planes and guns are placed on the wings making it more difficult on aiming it)

Its only redeeming fact is its good payload of 2 x 1000 lb bomb which both are drop at the same time and 1 500 lb bomb which can bring you an easy 2 kills.

Thus, I believe this plane does not deserve the top 5 list and this plane plays more of a strike aircraft than an actual fighter bomber. The reason it is popular is because lots of nation have this plane and the plane is also sturdy.
